A daily email report of quarantined messages can be sent to each user (who is set up for it) showing a list of quarantined messages for that user. Details shown include Subject, From, Date/Time etc..

Razor2 is a distributed, collaborative, spam detection and filtering network. Spam is reported by users worldwide as it is received and a signature of a random part of the message is recorded in the Razor2 database. As part of it's Intrusion Prevention settings Merak can now be set to monitor sessions for RSET commands. Any RSET command detected will increment an internal counter, if this counter reaches a predefined threshhold then the server's IP address is instantly blocked and the connection terminated.

Merak 8.5 implements Intrusion Prevention, allowing you to block an IP that sends a message whose spam score exceeds a specified threshold. A further way to help protect your Users from Spam Attacks.

Group Accounts have been implemented. A Group Account contains a list of member Accounts, which can include User Accounts, Mailing List Accounts, and even other Group Accounts. Calendar information, Contact information and Folders can be shared with a Group Account which can greatly increase Productivity and Collaborative possibilities.

Message Content Indexing allows you to block messages that have the same content according to rules based on number of duplicate messages received within a specified time.

Merak GroupWare offers full support for the Internet vFreeBusy standard. This allows Users to publish there schedule of Free and Busy times to a public place for viewing by other Users, allowing the scheduling of meetings and other events with less chance of time conflicts. Microsoft Outlook (versions 2000 or higher and XP) have support for retrieval of free/busy information from a specified location.

To enhance the performance of the IMAP Server, internal index files have been implemented.

A built in process to Archive Email. You can choose to archive incoming mail only, or incoming and outgoing mail. There is an option to delete archived email older than a specified age and an option to only archive specified domains.

Public GroupWare Folders are predefined folders that will be available to all users of GroupWare. When synchronisation occurs between a GroupWare Server and a GroupWare Client (such as Merak Outlook Connector or Merak Webmail) the User will be presented with a list of the Public Folders and be offered the chance to subscribe to them.

For any website hosted by the Merak Web Server, you can enable Directory Content Listing. If a user accesses a directory within a website where there is no specific home page (as defined in the Documents setting of the site) then a list of the files in that directory will be displayed instead.

See what's happening, live! You can view all Service that are active and all connections to those services (including SMTP, POP, IMAP, GroupWare, IM, FTP, HTTP). See the commands and responses sent to and from the server. Double click on the particular session to view the whole history of the session, or save this history to a file. Every session can be killed if required. Various statistics, such as volume of transferred data (for SMTP,POP3 and IMAP sessions), current URL (for Control sessions) and number of connections for user can be shown.

WebAdmin allows Administrators to maintain all modules, options and settings via any Internet connection. Domain Administrators can use WebAdmin to manage the Domains and Accounts for which they have the permissions. The interface has the same look and feel of the Merak Email Server Administration Console.

DomainKeys technology is a proposed email authentication system. It is similar to SPF in that it is is a way of validating and proving authenticity of the domain of an email sender, but it goes further in that it can also effectively prove that the message content has not been tampered with during transit

Greylisting is another method for fighting spam. It is based on the fact that 99% of spam is sent by Automated Bulk Email Programs, which will not try to redeliver messages that are undeliverable, unlike a real Mail Server. Any message from a new, untrusted source will be rejected for a specified time period. After this time period the source will be accepted. This allows real Servers to redeliver failed messages, and will help stop the Automated Bulk Email programs from getting through.

SPF (Sender Policy Framework) technology is a further way of fighting spam. An internet Domain-name owner adds an SPF record to the DNS zone of his domain, specifying which mail servers are allowed to send emails for this domain. Any receiving Server which is SPF enabled will check the DNS record for the domain specified in the Header Sender Address of an incoming email and verify the allowed sending Servers against the SPF record. If there is a discrepancy then the email will be regarded as suspicious.

Merak Email Server is now SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) enabled. SNMP enables network administrators to manage network performance, find and solve network problems, and plan for network growth.

Merak Instant Anti-Spam Logging makes it easily possible to track and find out what tests were performed on an incoming message and why that message was marked, or not marked, as Spam. This allows Administrators to analyse Mail Server behavior and configure Anti-Spam rules to further reduce incorrect spam classification.

Distributed Domains are targeted at systems with heavy mail traffic that may suffer from slowdown problems. Your User community is hosted across multiple Domains on multiple Servers and the Distributed Domain holds a list of the host Servers. When a message comes in, the Distributed Domain queries each host Server to locate the User and forwards the message directly to that Server. The query is performed using the SMTP VRFY command, and is extremely fast.

The Merak Web Server is a powerful, scalable and easy to use. It has many unique features such as server side scripting (SSI) and extensions (ISAPI, CGI, FASTCGI) support - all tested with PHP and Perl usage.

The Remote Server Watchdog can monitor remote servers to check whether they are accessible and functioning correctly. A string can be sent to a server if it is available and the return string checked. A report of results can be sent, via email or IM, based on the results. A URL can also be monitored and automatically downloaded if the page being monitored changes.

It is sometimes required that users be allowed to manage their own Accounts, and Domain Administrators usually have the Privileges required to create new Accounts within their domains. This can bring the risk that Accounts are given insecure passwords. The Password Policy Feature can enforce the length, number of numeric and non-alphanumeric characters in a password and password expiration, greatly reducing the risk of unwanted access to your system.

Complete support for the Spam URI Realtime Blacklist technology and compatible functions have been added. This achieves a higher probability of URLs being detected in spam messages. Merak Email Server now uses more than 5 different SURBL URI servers. This feature is switched on by default.

Support for Nested Folders (subfolders) has been added so that any Notes, Tasks or Contacts can be arranged in folders just as in MS Outlook. After synchronization with MS Outlook the Folder structure will now be exactly the same within both Outlook and the Groupware Server. This allows Users to establish and maintain a hierarchical structure if they desire.

The newest and latest SpamAssassin support has been added. The implementation in Merak Email Server is proprietary code.

The Challenge/Response feature requires the sender of a message to verify that he/she actually sent the email by visiting a web page and entering a verification code. Until the verification is complete the message is held in the system. Once verification is complete the sender is automatically White-Listed and is never challenged again. NOTE - Most spam messages are sent by mass-mailing systems, and there are usually no real people at the email address that is used in the "From" header, so verification cannot be provided.

The Outlook GroupWare Connector is a small plug-in for Microsoft Outlook (versions 2000 or higher and XP) that enables Users to synchronize the Calendar and Address Book entries with the GroupWare Server.

Catalog Accounts are collections of data files. The contents of a Catalog can be queried via email, and individual files, or whole Catalogs, can be requested via email, and are sent as email attachments. It is also possible to request a file, or set of files, be sent to a third party.

Executable Accounts (Executables) enable you to run jobs/processes on a server without using any remote admin tools. Simply setup a job in advance, and it can be executed simply by sending an email to the server. The executable can be DOS, Win32 application, a DLL or a URL, so long as no user interaction is required. The Executable can be password protected and the triggering email can be forwarded to another User for reference.

IMAP Shared Folders is a unique Merak Email feature which enables you to share the content of specified IMAP folders with other IMAP Users. You can set rights, create several shared folders, and much more.

Merak WebMail is a Hotmail-like interface for web-based and WAP access to messages. Powerful features such as a Spell Checker, Remote Web Administration, Attachment Support, private and shared Address Books, Groups, Signatures, multiple Mail Server support and many others are included.

When a User collects messages via POP, which requires authentication, the IP address of the User can be remembered for a specified period of time. If the same IP address attempts to Relay messages within that time Merak Email Server will allow the relay without further authentication.

Merak provides a feature called Intrusion Prevention. xip allows you to monitor for possible spam attacks on a Domain. If a particular IP address attempts to deliver multiple messages to unknown Users on your Merak Email Server then that IP address can be blocked for a set period of time. There are options to permanently block an attacking IP address and to Bypass Intrusion Prevention for certain IP addresses.

An integrated LDAP (Lightweight Directory Access Protocol) Server allows you to publically publish information so that Users can locate organizations, individuals, files and devices within your network, even from outside your network via the Internet.

The System Backup Tool allows you to schedule automatic backups of the Merak Email Server at predefined intervals. The default option is to backup the Configuration and Settings and the Merak License. You can optionally choose to backup User Data, Server Logs and all Messages. You can exclude emails from the backup according to age and/or size. Backups are made to a file whose name can include date and/or time information so you can keep multiple copies, and there is an option to delete backup files according to their age.

As the number of Accounts on your system increases, it may become more efficient to store Account information within a Database. ODBC (Open DataBase Connectivity) is supported to allow this, and conversion tools are integrated to convert between file systems and database systems.

Content Filters are a very powerful and scalable part of the system. A Content Filter is able to parse messages based on their Header and/or Body content and perform actions on the message according to the results. Content Filters operate at the global server level but the options available allow you to provide actions for specific Users, Senders, Domains, etc. Setting a Content Filter is achieved through a very simple dialog process. It is also possible to export and import your Content Filters and XML files.

The Black and White list is available for every account type within the Merak Email Server. The Black and White List is a set of rules that are applied to messages as they arrive to decide whether the message should be accepted or rejected. An easy-to-use dialog is available to create highly sophisticated rules for your Black and White Lists. You can check Message Headers, Message Body, Attachments etc., compare the content against simple string comparisons or complex Regular Expressions and, based on the result, assign an action for the message, including Rejection, Acceptance, Deletion and Forwarding.

Using Merak Email Server's Mailing List and List Server Accounts offer you the ability to offer fully featured Mailing List solutions to your users. Features include Password Support, Moderated Mailing Lists, Restricted Message Size, Customized Headers and Footers, and Subscription Files. You can choose to modify the To, Reply To and From fields in message headers. There are also options for a Members Only mode, Maximum Mailbox Size limit and much, much more!

Remote Accounts are used for collecting messages from POP3 or IMAP Servers. You can specify APOP secure authentication, domain POP collection, message collection scheduling, message forwarding and extra copy forwarding. Of course. Anti-Spam and Anti-Virus rules are followed as defined by you.
